  • Re: Got error to open a c# project "The tools version "14.0" is unrecognized"

Yes, the code editor doesn't understand new language features introduced in C# version 6, because it didn't exist when SharpDevelop 5 was released. The SharpDevelop project seems to be dormant at the moment because the principal developers who've done such great work on it in the past are all busy on other projects. So at present ...

  • Re: Sharp5.1 dont let me change porpery on form and controls

As far as I know, SharpDevelop uninstalls cleanly and doesn't leave anything hanging around, the only exception being if you've created any files or folders within its install folder, in which case the install folder and any files or folders you've created there are left behind, but the rest of the application is removed. You could try ...

  • Re: Sharp5.1 dont let me change porpery on form and controls

OK, so it's not your project causing this behaviour, it must be something about your SharpDevelop installation or some aspect of your machine's configuration. So when you try to open the drop-down list, it opens but then closes again immediately before you have a chance to select anything from the list? If that's what you're ...

  • Re: NumericTextBox.Minimum

Hmm, I can confirm this. When a NumericUpDown control in a Windows Forms project has its Minimum property set to a negative value, switching away from the form designer and back again causes the sign to be lost. This is true in SharpDevelop 5.1 and 5.2, but not 4.4. And curiously when I save a project containing such a control with a negative ...

  • Re: Got error to open a c# project "The tools version "14.0" is unrecognized"

It's neither a bug nor user error. The currently released SharpDevelop version predates MSBuild version 14 and so doesn't know how to use it. You can tell SharpDevelop how to use it if you're willing to download the source code and make some small changes to it and build your own custom version (which is what I did). Instructions ...

  • Re: Sharp5.1 dont let me change porpery on form and controls

OK, I'm able to change that property in my forms and controls, and the change is applied to the .Designer.cs file too. What happens when you try to change it? Do you get a drop-down list of other modifiers when you click on it or not? If you get a drop-down list, does the property change in the properties pad or not? Or is it changing in the ...

  • Re: Sharp5.1 dont let me change porpery on form and controls

Apologies for the slow response, I've been a bit busy with my day job :-( So you're working on a Windows Forms project, and you can see the properties pad, but you can't change the values of any of the properties? Am I understanding you correctly? Did you attempt to post a screenshot? Because if you did then it didn't make it ...

  • Re: Sharp5.1 dont let me change porpery on form and controls

More detail please... Is the properties window not visible at all? Or is it disabled somehow? Is it just forms and controls that you can't change the properties of? If you select a file in the solution explorer, it'll have properties, some of which you should be able to edit, such as Build action and Copy to output directory - can you ...

  • Re: SharpDevelop locks in debugging

I've never seen this behaviour before, but here are a few things I'd suggest to help to isolate the cause... 1) Try debugging the same project using version SharpDevelop 4.4 and/or 5.2 beta - do they behave the same? Does repairing or uninstalling/reinstalling SharpDevelop 5.1 from the Uninstall a Program window make any difference (if ...

  • Re: C# 6.0?

There's another workaround to make SharpDevelop support building projects using newer versions of MSBuild than 12, rather than editing your project files as Matt suggests, for anyone willing to download the SharpDevelop source and build their own version. It's described here. Although like Matt's workaround, this only allows you to ...
