    Filetype associations

Hello, I once tried SharpDevelop, hoping it would go well alongside the Visual Studio Express Editions I already had installed. However, the installer seemed fit to overwrite the sensitive file association registrations already done by VC#Express, and I lost the VS feature to automatically select the right product (Visual C#, Basic, C++ etc) when double clicking a *.sln file. Or a *.csproj for that matter. It completely drove me crazy, as I had to reinstall all my Visual Studio Express products (just fixing the associations didn't work), and it didn't really work as well as before until I completely reinstalled Windows XP (that was on another occasion, though). Quite depressing actually, I really liked the IDE, but didn't really appreciate the problems that come alongside...
Downright, my point is that the installer should offer the user the choice of applying new file associations with SharpDevelop. Please let me know if I there is a way I can contribute to the installer. See, I can't compile SharpDevelop using Visual C# Express, because it doesn't support project folders...quite a bootstrapping problem.

Clicking "Restore File Associations" in C# Express resets everything correctly for me. You can prevent SharpDevelop from re-registering its file extensions in the SharpDevelop options.

And for "bootstrapping" SharpDevelop - what's wrong with the .bat files?

    Re: Filetype associations

It was a while ago I realize, now that version 2 is out. There's nothing wrong with the bat-files, but they magically don't popup with an IDE that lets me inspect source files like VS.

Anyway, I just think it's fair, and to be expected by end users, that the installation politely asks for whether to do the file registrations. Some installers do, but some, like the VS installer, don't. However, if someone already has VS installed, it is likely that they are just checking out #Develop on a side-by-side basis.

    Thanks for the response anyway.
