1) Release Information
SharpDevelop 2.2 is a bug fix release. It is fully
compatible with 2.1, which means that all addins built against v2.1 will
continue to work unmodified in 2.2. Please note that setup overwrites existing
2.1 installations, however, will preserve users settings from the old
installation.
To highlight a few important changes:
- Additional and improved templates
- Boo support updated to version 0.7.8
- NUnit support updated to version 2.4.1
- WiX support updated to version 2.0.5325
- Cecil updated to version 0.5
- SharpDevelop Reports 2.2 included
- SharpDbTools has been removed from the 2.x series
Because it caused confusion in the past we also clarified
the license on our samples (part of the source download): they now come with
explicit BSD headers. The same license was applied to the debugger addin, which
kind of is a (rather big) example on using the debugging APIs.
Our Web offerings were extended too, we now provide an
online code formatter (eg C# to formatted HTML).
2) SharpDevelop “Montferrer” Status
Work on the next feature release version of SharpDevelop has
started already. Our focus will be support for .NET 3.x, including LINQ,
Windows Workflow Foundation as well as Windows Presentation Foundation. Daniel wrote a blog post on where WPF support stands today: XAML and WPF support in SharpDevelop 3.0. Please see the comments to this post for details on how to
help.
Speaking of help, we could use help in various areas of our roadmap. Of course, there is the wish list too if nothing on our
official todo list caught your fancy. Simply go to our future releases forum and let us know
what you’d be interested in helping with. Join the team!
3) SharpDevelop Featured on .NET Rocks!
In May, an interview was recorded with Christoph Wille, the
PM of SharpDevelop. Christoph gives some background of the project’s history,
where it stands today, and what the future holds. More details and link to the
show
4) SharpZipLib 0.85.2 Release
John Reilly today released a new version for SharpZipLib. Release information and the change log can be found on the
project’s Wiki page.
